Winston Salem Gyms:10 Fitness Mistakes We Can All Make

August 2nd, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. No Comments

The following article is one of a series of articles which focus on Self Improvement, Motivation and Empowerment. It is based on research done over twenty years as a personal and business coach. This self improvement article was written in response to questions which have been asked on losing weight and long term weight loss as well as address common challenges that people have with this subject. I sincerely hope that you find the following information of value.
10 Fitness Mistakes We Can All Make
Nearly every guy or gal who’s tried dieting or fitness has dropped out of a program at least once. Such is life. Work and social events tend to get in the way, lack of adequate emotional support saps the willpower and boredom sets in. Eating the same kind of foods every day is boring.
Suiting up at the gym only to go through the same motions is also boring. But this kind of mood can be avoided with a bit of planning and a positive attitude. Here’s a list of the most common mistakes people do when trying to get fit.
The number one mistake has to be the failure to plan ahead. Going to the gym with a vague target in mind is the best way to fail. If your target is unclear, how can you know if you’ve reached it or not? If you’re a little vague on the details, maybe you need help.
Ask a doctor what’s your ideal weight and make that your goal. Or focus on the number of inches you want to drop off your stomach, bottom and thighs. That works great, too.
Coming up with excuses to avoid going to the gym is second on this list. Yes, life tends to get in the way, but that can be arranged with some more planning. Don’t quit the program just because something came up at the last moment. Reschedule your gym session and make sure you don’t get lazy.
Don’t work out too little. This may seem too obvious to belong here, but a lot of people lift two dumbbells a couple of times and think they’re done for the day. Sit down at the table for half an hour and come up with a sound training program. If you don’t know enough to make your own program ask a gym trainer or a veteran bodybuilder to help you. People are usually quite happy to show off their knowledge.
Too much fitness is also bad. Muscles need time to grow and the body needs time to burn fat. Some people think that the body only burns up fat during exercises, but this is not true. The more muscles mass you have, the faster calories get burnt because muscles need energy for maintenance all the time. Even when you’re resting. Overtraining will simply make you tired without any additional benefits.
========SIDEBAR========
When it comes to the subject of self improvement, I fully understand (through my own experiences) that it is a lot easier said than done. However, you are here, right now, because you have a desire to improve your self or you are at least interested in this subject. Perhaps you are reading this to help a friend or colleague – great. If this article helps you or you help a friend, paying it forward is what lif’e all about so we all win.
======END SIDEBAR======
Never compare yourself to others. We are all unique individuals with unique genetic make-ups governing our weight gain, weight loss and response to training. You shouldn’t rate your performance according to the achievements of others, but stick to your own pace and your own goal. If you’re trying too hard too soon, you’re simply asking to fail.
Don’t do the same things over and over. There’s no better way to lose motivation that doing the same exercises in the same order over and over again. Learn to juggle around with the exercises that form your routine and replace them with new ones every now and then. Find variations on a classic exercise and try them out. Make things interesting for yourself
Don’t stroll into the pub straight from the gym and keep alcohol consumption on a tight leash. Alcohol has extra calories that you don’t want and is also metabolized as fat and very fast. Pumping iron in the gym for 45 minutes and then throwing the entire effort away with a couple of beers is not a good way to move forward.
Keep a close eye on your meals. Drop the fast food and snacks from your daily eating plan and forget about soft drinks. At the same time avoid starving yourself. This is a huge mistake and a lot of people do it. Never assume that you can tank your way through a fitness program while starving yourself because you’ll only end up in a hospital. Muscles need nourishing meals in order to grow and starvation is a bad way to diet anyway.
And, lastly, never look for a magic fix that can save you all the trouble. You can’t lose weight sitting around and moping in front of the TV or computer. It just doesn’t happen. So get out and go to that gym because it’s good for you. And no excuses!

Winston Salem Gyms:Tips About Fitness Equipment

July 25th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. No Comments

Fitness equipment can help you get into shape faster. You will look great and feel better. Exercising increases your metabolism and your energy level. They type of exercise equipment you will use depends on what you want to accomplish. Some types of equipment are for a cardio workout, others target trouble areas including the stomach, hips, and thighs. Weight lifting fitness equipment is designed to help a person build muscle and strength. Don’t be fooled by those late night infomercials offering you fitness equipment that will give you miraculous results overnight. The truth is it takes time, effort, and dedication to see great results no matter what exercise equipment you use.
Some people like to purchase their own fitness equipment. This allows them to work out in the privacy of their home or garage at any time of the day or night that suits them. This may be because they enjoy working out alone, they are embarrassed to have others see them or because they have small children they won’t have to get childcare for. In my case, I enjoy doing Taebo, but I am very uncoordinated. I only do it in the privacy of my own home where no one else can see me. I am sure my moves don’t exactly resemble those on my TV screen.
Be careful when you are selecting home fitness equipment. You don’t want to pay a great deal of money for something that is going to end up stored in your closet or shed. Take the time to read reviews on various exercise equipment. If you aren’t able to try the product before you buy it make sure it has a money back guarantee in case you aren’t happy with how the product operates. Since most of us can quickly get bored doing the same routine, choose home fitness equipment that allows you to do a variety of exercises on it.
Videos and DVD’s are popular fitness equipment that are used in the home. You can do fun cardio exercises as well as stretching and yoga by following along on these home videos and DVD’s. For best results, purchase the small hand weights, jump rope, exercise mat, and exercise ball that offer you the best overall fitness workout. For men, weights are the most common fitness equipment. They use it to get fit, lose weight, get stronger, and build their muscles. It is a good idea to purchase a weight set that is easy to adjust because as you get stronger you will be able to use more weight for your reps. A weight bench is also good for lifting and for bench pressing.
The gym or a fitness center is a great place to find all the various types of fitness equipment you want in one convenient location. Going to the gym is a great place to get into shape as well as motivate yourself. It may be the one place you go each day that is exclusively for you. If you have a spouse and children then you know exactly why that is important. The gym is also a great place to try out particular fitness equipment that you may be interested in purchasing to use at home.

Winston Salem Gyms:How To Avoid Becoming A Fitness Failure

July 15th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms.

How To Avoid Becoming A Fitness Failure
Few things are worse than trying to get your body into shape and failing. It takes quite some courage to start on a fitness program and it takes willpower to stick to it and avoid ditching it a couple of days later.
Unfortunately, more than half of the people who decide to take up a fitness program do so on a whim and drop out within the first six months. Boredom, busy schedules and a feeling of being fit enough to no longer need the exercising combine to convince people that exercises are not worth the effort and striving.
The first thing you want to do in order to avoid being a complete failure is to set a goal for yourself. If you want to be thinner, then decide on a number of pounds you want to shed. If you want to be able to run around the park without spitting your lungs on the sidewalk, then train accordingly. But whatever you do, set a clear goal so you don’t have to guess whether you’re making progress or not.
Also, make sure your goal is realistic. Dropping 1 pound per week through a combination of reduced intake of calories and increased physical effort is a realistic goal. Shedding 50 pounds in two months is not just a dream, but the attempt may also prove dangerous for your health.
========SIDEBAR========
======END SIDEBAR======
After deciding upon a goal, always make sure you’re keeping track of your progress. This will help keep you motivated because you will always have the visible proof of your success at whatever it is you’re doing. But bear in mind that tracking should also be done carefully.
If you’re going for weight loss, don’t give in to the temptation to weigh yourself every day. Body weight fluctuates naturally from one day to the other and depends on many factors. It’s much too easy to be discouraged and abandon the program just because two extra glasses of water have messed up your weight.
Keep your fitness schedule as varied as possible. Exercises are great for your health, but only hardcore bodybuilders are never bored by them. Doing the same thing over and over becomes tedious sooner or later so make sure you mix your exercises and change the order every week or whenever you feel boredom starting to move in.
Don’t let yourself get to the point where you say “Damn that exercise! I’m not going to do it again as long as I live!”. If you can’t come up with a good plan, ask a gym trainer or a veteran to help you out.
The final advice is to share the joys and problems of fitness with somebody. Find a friend who also goes to the gym and start going together. You can help each other achieve your goals and swap stories about successes and failures in between reps. A workout partner will make things look easier with a positive attitude and you can do the same thing for him or her.
Oh, and don’t allow yourself to come up with excuses for avoiding the gym. Cheap tricks like that are never any good.
NOW is the time!
O.K. you have read the article. Now is the time for action. Without action, this article adds no value whatsoever to your self improvement. But remember, without action, you cannot blame this self improvement article or any article for that matter. So, take action NOW.

Winston Salem Gyms:Why Dumbbells Make More Sense

June 28th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under Fitness Tips. No Comments

In the world of resistance training, one of the most common debates is whether one should use machines or dumbbells (free-weights) for their strength-training goals. Despite the slick look and new technologies of the latest fitness machines out on the market, dumbbells are one of the very few tools used in strength training that have stood the test of time.
Simply stated, dumbbells are better because they are free weights. This means that you have to work to stabilize the weight, instead of the shiny machine. And that’s the goal: for you to do the work.
The use of dumbbells gives you a much more comprehensive strengthening effect because the workout engages your stabilizer muscles, in addition to the muscle you may be pin-pointing. Without all of the belts and artificial stabilizers of a machine, you also engage your core muscles, which are your body’s natural stabilizers. In this sense, every exercise also becomes a more comprehensive total-body workout. Free-weight lifting causes your body to engage its natural strengthening tendencies. The same person that can bench press 200 pounds with a bar or a machine, may be only able to lift 160 pounds of total weight with free weights. With dumbbells, results are quicker because you have to work harder to stay stable in the entire body.
Dumbbells also give the user a better range of motion. The movement that it takes to lift a dummbell uses not only our natural weight baring tendencies, but also the body’s natural patterns of movement. In this sense, free-weights are more balanced, and more functional. An example of this functionality in the real world would be that of an athlete training for a sport. Through the use of the free-weights, the athlete could create a workout routine that mimicked critical movement patterns that he or she repeats while engaged in the sport. Similarly, there are many cases where we can safely “multitask” with free-weights, such as in the case of doing biceps curls and lunges at the same time. In this way, you can perform a variety of exercises in less time than switching from machine to machine.
Furthermore, working out with dumbbells is something that most of us can afford to do from our own homes. In this sense, they carry over into normal life better than a machine can. The sheer variety that a couple of pairs of dumbbells can offer is unparalleled when compared to a machine. Many experts agree that dumbbells also create quicker, more visible results than exercise machines, because of their “natural” stabilizer effect, as well as the use of many other supporting muscle groups.
Price wise, the set of machines you would need to purchase to train all of your different muscle groups would cost a fortune for a home gym. A standard set of adjustable dumbbells can cost as little as $200 to $300 dollars. Compared to the price of buying the machines yourself, or even a standard gym membership, your own set of dumbbells are a great value for optimizing outcome on your body and your wallet. Space wise, today’s adjustable dumbbell sets can be easily stored in the corner of a room or in a closet. Machines are bulky, and especially for a home-gym, require that you have an extra room in your home specifically for working out. This is simply unrealistic for most of us.
That said, there are some great benefits to using machines that should be mentioned. Particularly from a therapeutic standpoint, machines enable us to work a target muscle by pinpointing the exact and optimal range of motion. More modern machines also have cams that can alter the resistance in accordance with the muscle’s strength curve. In this way, we can progressively load resistance, something that is impossible to do with free weights. Another advantage of machines is their ability to increase safety. The machine greatly prevents injuries from dropping a load on yourself, as well as hyper-extension or over-motioning.
All in all, your best bet for a comprehensive work-out is to use a combination of both, with an big emphasis on dumbbells and free-weight lifting. Use machines to target specific muscles, or to heal and strengthen an injury safely. And remember, dumbbells can be just as safe as a machine, if used with the proper awareness, proper training and general safety guidelines. Make the decision to incorporate adjustable dumbbells into your home or gym practice, and start witnessing some new changes in your strength process.

Winston Salem Gyms:Patio Home Plans

June 15th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under Fitness Tips. No Comments

Patio Home Feature a Relaxing Atmosphere for Homeowners
Patio houses come with a variety of benefits and characteristics that are similar to town homes. However, they will usually only be grouped with two, three, or four homes as one building instead of the countless houses that are built together in town home communities. People of different ages are finding the qualities of patio homes fit in perfectly with their lifestyle, whether it’s as a vacation home in an area they frequently visit, or a home that requires less maintenance than single family homes.
Low Prices Enjoyed by Patio Home Owners
If you enjoy traveling to a certain area, whether it’s within a city, by a beach, or near your favorite lake, living in a patio home has its advantages. If you only plan to live in the house for a few months each year, you will probably want to ensure that it remains safe during the off season. Patio houses are often located within a gated community to ensure the properties within are secure. Plus, you won’t have to plan your vacation by finding out when hotel rooms are available or waste time having to move from one hotel to another to accommodate their vacancies.
For those that still want to own a home instead of rent an apartment but may not be able to afford a single family home, patio homes can be a terrific option because they are usually cheaper than other housing types. You will have less homes located within the community, so common living areas won’t be as crowded as condominium or town home neighborhoods. At the same time, many patio homes will have the popular amenities that attract potential buyers to consider town houses and condos. Swimming pools, fitness centers, playgrounds, and bar-b-que areas that are paid by association fees can give you a relaxing place to meet with friends or a convenient way to exercise without having to take out an expensive gym membership.
Patio Homes Provide Low Maintenance and Plenty of Design Options
While the majority of patio houses are single story, you’re still able to design the home to match your personal needs. Seniors prefer patio homes because they require less work from them due to the community maintenance company taking care of the exterior landscape and building repairs. However, they still own the home and can have custom features designed for their home’s interior. Most patio houses will share two walls with its neighboring units, but you won’t have neighbors above or below. This can dramatically reduce the amount of noise heard from others.
Most patio houses have patios in the back of the home instead of a yard. Families or individuals that don’t have the time or interest to keep up a backyard or garden prefer a patio area for a peaceful area to relax during pleasant weather conditions. Custom patio home designers will efficiently use the amount of space available while creating an open and spacious floor plan that blends different rooms of the home nicely together. With the right use of windows and interior lighting, you won’t even know that you’re sharing walls with your neighbors.

Affordable Home Fitness Products To Help You Lose Weight And Get In Shape For Summer

March 20th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. 1 Comment

Summertime is around the corner again, especially in Arizona. Whether you intend to be spending time at the beach, at the lake, or by the pool, everyone wants to have a firm and toned body for when it’s time to put on their swimsuit. Chances are you have seen commercials, infomercials, and advertisements for an assortment of weight loss products designed to “tone your body by using it just minutes a day”.
Let’s be honest: there is no miracle device that is going to turn you from flab to fab instantly and with minimal effort. It is the effort and exertion that helps you to burn fat and build muscle. However, millions of people still purchase those “miracle devices” each year. In the end, the only people who benefit from consumers purchasing these machines that do not live up to their expectations are the people who manufacture and sell them.
Despite the endless market for exercise machines that make false claims, a lot of equipment is available that, when used correctly, can be very beneficial to your health and fitness and can become a useful part of your weight loss program. There are several factors to keep in mind when choosing the equipment that best suits you. For starters, it is best to start by assessing the shape you are in, and then determining what your goal is. From there, you can select the appropriate equipment to lose weight, build/tone muscle, and tone your ab muscles and waistline.
Losing Weight and Getting in Shape: It can be fun!
Many fitness goals and weight loss programs fail because the person who wants to get in shape loses interest. Let’s face it – running on a treadmill is boring and monotonous, and can be rough on your knees and hips. The key to ensuring that you stick to an exercise program is to find activities that not only burn calories, but also keep you entertained and do not cause unnecessary strain on your body.
Swimming is one of the best forms of low impact, cardiovascular exercise. Unfortunately, most people do not have a pool that is large enough or designed for lap swimming. For those situations, the ExerSwim Portable Swim Current Generator is the ideal solution. It installs in minutes on most swimming pools and, using an enclosed propeller drive, provides you with an adjustable speed current of up to seven miles per hour. The ExerSwim uses two rechargeable low voltage batteries and is easily transportable. If you do not consider yourself to be a strong swimmer, the Exerswim can be adjusted to a lower setting for walking and other aquatic exercises.
Much like running on a treadmill, swimming laps can be a boring exercise as well. With the SwiMP3 V2 Waterproof MP3 player, you can listen to your favorite music downloaded from your Mac or PC while you swim. The device includes an integrated rechargeable battery, easily clips to most goggle straps, and uses a special “bone conduction” technology to provide you with crystal clear sound under water.
If the weather is not quite warm enough for aquatic exercise, or you just consider yourself to be more of a land person, the Pilatesstick Portable Body Sculpting System is a completely portable device designed to allow you to perform a highly-effective form of low impact exercise practically anywhere. Pilates is a method of physical movement and exercise, coupled with focused breathing patterns, designed to help stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. It has been used world-wide by everyone from actors to rock stars and has been used as an important tool in professional sports training and physical rehabilitation. The Pilatesstick includes a heavy-duty cable system, its own carrying case and Pilates mat, and a Full Body Basic Training DVD.
Building and Toning Muscle – Say “Good Bye” to the Hassle of Weights
For years lifting weights has been the method of choice for building and toning muscle. Unfortunately, a wide variety of weight machines and weights are necessary to give your muscle groups the workout needed to improve definition and build mass. Why waste your time and money while risking injury with these machines? A variety of simple and affordable devices are available that accomplish those same goals.
Chances are you have seen the Perfect Pushup advertised on television. Because it has been featured on commercials and infomercials, most people dismiss it as just another useless device… this is not true! The Perfect Pushup takes the ageless push up, an exercise that is highly effective for strength training, and enables it to work more muscle groups while taking strain away from your wrists. The rotating ability of these push up handles allows your arm to follow its natural rotation as your hands go from being near your chest to being fully extended from your body. The height of the hand grips allows you to lower yourself farther into the push up, working your arms, shoulders, chest, and back. The Perfect Pushup is also available in a Travel Edition that collapses and comes with a travel case. The Perfect Pushup Travel Edition is compact enough to fit in carryon luggage and makes maintaining a fitness routine while travelling much easier. Both versions include an exercise program to get you started.
If you are more interested in muscle tone and definition than bulk, the Thera-Band Exercise Bands Set is a simple yet effective form training device that is commonly used by Olympic swimmers. Available in multiple levels of resistance to accommodate your individual level of strength, Thera-Band Exercise Bands are small enough to make them perfect for travel. They can be cut into different lengths and offer a variety of available exercises to tone multiple muscle groups.
Toning Your Abdominal Muscles – Getting Rid of That Gut!
Commercials and infomercials for machines designed to help you lose belly fat and get six-pack abs are all over television year-round. The population as a whole is obsessed with this hard-to-obtain look and will spend money on products that promise impossible results. The common misconception is that, if you want to get a slim waistline and toned abs, you need to use a specific ab machine to do so. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If you have a lot of excess fat at your waist or are very overweight, diet and cardiovascular exercise are the first steps you should take towards achieving this goal. The devices mentioned in the first section are great for getting you started on the path to this goal. Once you have slimmed down from diet and exercise, you can begin using ab machines to tone your existing abdominal muscles.
One of the most simple and inexpensive, yet very effective devices for exercising any part of your body is a gym ball. You can select from the Gymnastik Maxafe Ball, FitBall Exercise Ball, or the Physioball Maxafe Ball. They are available in a variety of sizes and colors, and many include exercise charts and pumps. Besides offering an assortment of abdominal exercises, exercise balls enable you to tone your arms, legs, chest, and back as well. Each of these three models can accommodate up to 500 pounds and are burst-resistant to prevent injury.
The Slendertone Flex Abdominal Toning System is another product that is often dismissed as ineffective and a waste of money. This is primarily because consumers expect this product to drastically reduce their belly fat and give them six-pack abs. The Slendertone is an effective product but only when used in conjunction with diet and exercise. If you already have a stomach with very little fat and need a way to gain that extra edge to reach your fitness goal, the Slendertone Flex is the ideal piece of fitness equipment for you. Electrical impulses cause the muscles of your entire abdominal area to contract and relax, giving you an effective workout while you go about your busy lifestyle. This product is perfect for those who sit at a desk all day or are too busy to get that extra ab exercise in their schedule. The digital display allows you to easily set the desired level of stimulation and choose from four preprogrammed workouts.
Who says ab exercises need to be boring and painful? The Bongo Board is a unique device designed to give you an effective and fun core workout. At first glance it looks like a skateboard with one set of wheels, but the Bongo Board is fun to ride and requires only a small area indoors or out for use. Its patented design allows you to learn proper distribution of body weight to achieve constant equilibrium and tone the muscles used for balance and stability, such as your abs, lower back, glutes, and obliques.
Getting Fit Through Nutrition – A Healthy Diet is the Key to a Healthy Body
America’s obsession with weight loss and the desire to have the perfect body with minimal effort has lead many to resort to weight loss supplements. Many of these supplements promise fast results by suppressing your appetite. Unfortunately, these methods of weight loss carry serious health risks and side effects such as damage to your heart from overworking it, stomach problems, mood swings, nausea, and headaches. As mentioned before, there is no easy way to lose weight.
Supplements should never take the place of a healthy diet and exercise program, but they can be used to help augment it. Sublingual B-12 is a supplement that contains vitamins B-12 and B-6 as well as folic acid. It helps increase energy and improves cardiovascular health. Unlike other supplements that are swallowed and can take hours to enter your blood stream, Sublingual B-12’s fruit punch-flavored tablets dissolve under your tongue to enter the blood stream in a fraction of the time. Best of all, they are one of vitamin supplements that actually taste great.
Finally, Set Realistic Goals
The products mentioned above make no claim to be miracle devices. While they are very effective tools to help you lose weight and get in shape, you typically will not see results immediately. Do not over-exert yourself to try to achieve faster results as this can cause injury. Above all, be patient – if you want to go from a couch potato to an athlete it will take some time.

The Revolutionary Europlate Vibration Exercise Machine

March 19th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. No Comments

Although the technology behind these vibration plates seem like a very recent innovation, the concept on the whole body vibration owes its origins way back to the time when the ancient Greeks where so bent on discovering ways to put the healing process of injuries on a faster pace. Originally, they would wrap the affected body part with a piece of cloth, one end of which is tied to a saw that would provide the believed-to-be-healing vibrations. Although simpler in design, this Greek method will show its likeness to the belt massagers that we have today. In the late nineteenth century, famous inventor and physician John Harvey Kellogg used vibrations from machines in treating his patients.
But the idea of using the concept on whole body vibration in the modern times is attributed to Vladimir Nazarov, a Russian scientist. He referred to the process as the biochemical stimulation. The Russian Space Program made researches and studies on using vibrations to trigger movement in the muscles, which were supposedly to prevent bones and muscles from being idle while the cosmonauts stayed very long in space. Eventually the concept on whole body vibration were being studied and implemented among ballet dancers when they learned about its effects of helping them recover from muscle injuries faster. No wonder Russia’s Olympic athletes were adopting the idea when they discovered increased jump height and muscle strength after every use.
And now VibraSlim, the leading fitness equipment manufacturer in the United States of America have again uphold their great name in the fitness world in their invention of the revolutionary Europlate Vibration Exercise Machine with completely new fitness functions and attractive design.
Over the years, the name VibraSlim has stood out when it comes to the making of vibration exercise equipment with its continuous production of top-quality fitness equipment that are affordable for the regular and average health buff. VibraSlim leads in the fitness world in its perseverance to provide athletes, doctors, gyms, hospitals, and everyday people with the vibration plate equipment to improve the total health and well-being of each and everyone.
The new Europlate Vibration Exercise Machine is designed with rubber exercise straps with an improved ability to enhance training results. The whole machine is dependent in the wholly body vibration concept. With whole body vibration varying vibrating frequencies are sent through the body’s various systemsmuscular, skeletal, glandular, and nervous systems, which is practically then entire body system. Unlike the traditional gym training that uses large amounts of physical strength to improve one’s well-being, the whole body vibration technique makes use of lower frequencies and still causes healthy effects on the body functions. Generally the whole body vibration technique is ideal for warming up, cooling down, and for strength training, while higher frequencies are for the enhancement of the body’s blood circulation to the stimulation of the body’s peripheral tissues. With the vibrating plate, vibrations are sent through the feet or hands. The body, in turn, adjusts to these stimuli and responds with a corresponding stretch reflex, a reflexive adjustment occurring in the brain that further sends out neuro-regenerative effects as it is rejuvenated and a healthier mental state is restored.
At an affordable price and with all the healthy benefits you get from it, the Europlate Vibration Exercise Machine is definitely a must-have in every home.

After that, celebrate with a delicious but health-friendly meal and you just might have given birth to a new routine for you and your friends.
Read a new book.
You definitely won’t mind working your guts out in your own home gym if you’re reading a new book. Since every page commands your attention, you probably won’t notice how long you’ve been exercising. If you can’t buy a new book for your home gym session, drop by the library and buy a new one.
Watch a new movie.
Head over to the video rental store and borrow any old movie you haven’t seen yet but you’ve always been interested in. Just like a new book, a new movie can make you temporarily forget the physical torture you’re enduring and focus instead on the story unfolding in the screen.
Monitor your progress.
Hang a calendar on the wall then cross out every box corresponding to the dates you’ve exercised. Seeing all those crossed out boxes are guaranteed to make you feel extremely proud of your achievement and at the same time motivate you to keep up the good work.
Regularly check your weight as well because nothing, and yes nothing, can make you feel better than seeing for yourself that your weight’s slowly decreasing.
Pat yourself on the back.
In other words, don’t forget to give yourself a reward for a job well done. If you’ve just attained a considerable feat then don’t hesitate to treat yourself because this can only encourage you to work out even longer and harder in your home gym. Don’t cheat though! If you do, the rewards would soon lose its meaning and significance and you’ll be forced to go back to square one.
Consequently, it’s important that the other end of the coin is considered as well. If you’ve reneged on your word, punish yourself accordingly. For every day of exercise missed, you should compensate it with twice as much exercise on the next day.
Have a role model.
Choose someone you’d like to be or look like with the help of regular exercise at your home gym. If you’ve chosen one already, have a life-size photo of your role model made then post it in your home gym. Every time you’re feeling lazy, just look at that photo and remind yourself that you need to exercise if you want to look like him or her.
Get things right.
Last but not the least, make sure your home gym has all the necessary equipment to give you a fun and complete workout. You must have exercise equipment that can help build your stamina, flexibility, and strength. Make sure they’re also easy and comfortable to use.
Your home gym must also be regularly cleaned because no one would be inclined to work out if they have to do so in a pig sty – or something close to it.
But ultimately, the motivation will still come from you. If you’re truly serious about your intentions then you’ll just a reminding nudge once or twice to get you back on track.

Can Fitness Boot Camps Really Help Your Fitness Business?

March 14th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. No Comments

The Bottom Line on Boot CampsBy Georgette Pann The fastest way to attract new clients and collect plenty of profits for your fitness business is with a new program. But what? You don’t want to put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into a fast-dying fad or a program that attracts a limited target market because your profits will dry up quickly. Your solution: Fitness boot camps. Boot camps appeal to a large range of people because just about anyone can do the exercises. And they escape the women-only stigma of aerobics and the men-only stigma of weight lifting. Influenced by traditional military boot camps, these fitness programs are so popular because they work- when they’re done right-and because of their social element. Boot camp participants enjoy the camaraderie of exercising in a group. And much like peer pressure keeps soldiers moving in military boot camp, peer encouragement – and developing friendships – keep people moving in fitness boot camp. Plus, more experienced participants often help newcomers, which provides an element of support that the trainer alone cannot give. Here are other major ways that fitness boot camps benefit you and your clients. Fitness Boot Camp Benefits for YouIf you don’t offer a boot camp as part of your fitness business, you’re missing out on serious dollars. Fiscally speaking, boot camps are a no-brainer. Compared with aerobics, weight lifting, Spinning, treadmill workouts or in-home training, boot camps are a virtual money mill. Here’s why: They are an efficient use of your time. As the trainer, you typically handle large groups of people at once. Class sizes range from 20 to more than 50 people, so you can afford to charge less per person, which means a greater potential for plenty of people to sign up. Look at it this way: If you were to charge $10 per person for each session, and you had an average class size of 20 people, you’d collect $200 for a one-hour session. It’s hard to charge that much for a one-on-one training session! Boot camps help you make money, but they also save you money because there are no overhead costs. You could hold your program in parks, school gymnasiums, parking lots, parking garages, or any place you can fit your class; you don’t need a studio or facility. You can arrange for a typical boot camp location for little or no money. If you’re planning to use a public park for a group boot camp, be sure to make any necessary reservations with park officials.Of course, if you already have a studio or facility, boot camp classes will make that space especially cost-effective. The fact that you don’t need a lot of equipment to run a boot camp means you reduce your expenses even further. Bodyweight exercises, such as pushups and sit-ups, form the core of most boot camp programs. Even if you decide to include dumbbells or resistance bands, you can pass that expense onto clients as a one-time fee. Or, you could have your business logo and contact info imprinted on the equipment to further promote your business and write it off at tax time. Boot Camp Benefits for Clients There are two main aspects that keep clients coming back to boot camp programs time after time: these programs are effective and fun. Let’s tackle the effectiveness part first. As you know, the key to weight loss, which is what the majority of boot campers are looking for, is burning calories. Boot camps cram a lot of exercise and calorie-burning into a short time. Clients don’t have to fool around with working out for 90 minutes to 2 hours every day. Forty-five minutes, boot-camp-style, is enough. Plus, participants benefit from higher metabolism for the rest of the day, which means they burn more calories for longer. And unlike many Nautilus and weight lifting programs that isolate only a few muscles, boot camp movements – such as pushups, pull-ups, jumping jacks and running – recruit many muscles in every exercise. So, instead of doing 3 sets on every machine in the gym, boot camp participants get the job done much more efficiently. Besides their effectiveness, boot camps appeal to people because of the fun and social factors. Sure, Denise Austin or Jake Steinfeld videos are motivating-but video workouts are very impersonal, and the motivation often lasts only for the first week or so. With a boot camp, participants get personal motivation from their trainer that is fresh and new every session. Boot camp trainers can also correct exercise form and postures for clients to keep them safe and get the most from the exercises. A video can’t do that. The bottom line is that boot camps make your bottom line look better. They are an efficient and profitable way to attract more clients and deliver effective fitness to more people. Adding a fitness boot camp to your programming reinforces your image as an effective, affordable fitness professional. Get Personal Trainer in your Personal Fitness Training Program

March 7th, 2009 by Winston Salem, under winston salem gyms. No Comments

You have made the decision that now is the time to get fit and drop those extra pounds that you have been carrying around. Good for you! The next step is to create a workout program that will meet all of your needs and help you meet your fitness goals. How do you do that? It can be easier said than done, especially if you have never been a serious fitness buff before. Some people have found that the best way to develop the right personal fitness training program is with the help of a personal trainer.
A trainer has the education, background and knowledge necessary to help you design a personal fitness training program that will address your unique needs and your individual goals. This person can teach you how to use all of the equipment at your fitness center safely and effectively. And trainers generally charge a reasonable price for their services. Many folks decide to continue working with their trainer on their personal fitness training program after the initial work is done. There are many good reasons to continue to work with a professional trainer throughout the course of a personal fitness training program.
Motivation and Efficiency One of the biggest roadblocks to sticking with a personal fitness training program long after the honeymoon phase is motivation. One day you wake up and realize it’s just too much effort to don the workout gear and head to the gym. One day off won’t hurt, right? Except that one day can turn into a week, and then a month. And then it’s really hard to get back into the swing of the personal fitness training program.
A trainer will keep you motivated over the long haul, until exercising becomes as automatic as eating breakfast and brushing your teeth. After all, you will be much more likely to leave the comfy warmth of your bed in the morning if you know your trainer is waiting for you. Especially if you are paying that person to show up and help you through your workout! Your trainer can also help you to ensure that your workouts continue to be efficient, by constantly challenging you to your physical limit and making sure you don’t get lazy with your reps. This is by far the best way to see positive results from your personal training program.
If you are ready to begin a personal training program, consider hiring a trainer to help you meet your fitness goals. Many people have found that having a professional on their team makes all the difference in achieving better health and a more beautiful body.
